Zurich Film Festival to Honor Kate Winslet
Oscar-winning British actress Kate Winslet will receive the Golden Icon Award, a career achievement prize, at the upcoming 20th Zurich Film Festival.
Winslet will attend the festival to receive the award on Oct. 7, where she will present her latest film, Lee. Directed by Ellen Kuras, the biopic explores the life of fashion model turned acclaimed war photographer Lee Miller. Winslet, who plays Miller, also co-produced the feature. She will receive the honor in Zurich in the presence of Lee Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, and Lee co-producer Kate Solomon.
Winslet has been a feature on the global movie scene since her breakout debut in Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures in 1994. She achieved icon status starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic (1997) but has balanced studio tentpoles with independent and arthouse projects, from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Revolutionary Road to Little Children and Steve Jobs; from her Oscar-winning performance in The Reader to her turn in Avatar: The Way of Water. She is also a two-time Emmy winner: For Mildred Pierce (2011), and Mare of Easttown (2021).
“Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and shines through her versatility in big studio blockbusters as well as small indie productions,” said Christian Jungen, artistic director of the Zurich Film Festival. “Her multifaceted choice of roles and her long Hollywood career make her a favorite with audiences of multiple generations.”
Zurich Golden Icon Award honors outstanding achievement in global cinema. Previous recipients include Jessica Chastain, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Grant.
The 20th Zurich Film Festival runs Oct. 3 to 13, 2024.
