‘Unprisoned’ Canceled After Second Season, Says Kerry Washington
Unprisoned star Kerry Washington says the Hulu series has been canceled after season two.
“Ladies & Gents, that is a wrap on Unprisoned. This beautiful show that we poured so much of our hearts and souls into is unfortunately not coming back for a Season 3,” Washington said on X, formerly Twitter, and Instagram on Friday.
“But I wanted you to hear it from me because while we’re super duper disappointed, we’re also crazy deeply grateful,” she added.
Washington and Delroy Lindo starred in UnPrisoned, a Hulu father-daughter dramedy based on the life of creator Tracy McMillan.
Unprisoned draws from McMillan’s lived experience growing up in the foster care system as her father, Harold, ultimately, spent a total of 37 years incarcerated.
Washington starred as Paige, a McMillan-inspired mother wrestling with abandonment issues resulting from her father, Delroy Lindo’s Edwin, being locked up and her being raised for a time by his girlfriend Nadine (Brenda Strong) who, according to Paige, was everything but a mother.
Washington expressed thanks to backers of the Hulu series, including fans of the show, in her social media post.
“Thank you to ABCS, Hulu & Onyx for giving us a creative home. And most importantly, we are grateful to YOU ALL – for watching, laughing, crying, yelling, dancing, eye-rolling, cheering (and all of the things between) along with us each episode,” she wrote.
