Oprah Winfrey hospitalized with stomach flu: ‘Stuff was coming out of both ends,’ Gayle King says

Oprah Winfrey was unable to keep a scheduled appearance on her pal Gayle King’s show, “CBS Mornings,” this week because she was hospitalized with a violent stomach bug.

“She had some kind of stomach thing — stomach flu — stuff was coming out of both ends,” the news anchor explained on Tuesday morning, per TMZ. “I won’t get too graphic. Needless to say, she ended up in the hospital, dehydration, had to get an IV, it was a very serious thing.”

She added, that Winfrey was trying to “rally” but ultimately couldn’t make it.

“She is resting and feeling better every day,” the spokesperson adds

Winfrey, 70, had been set to introduce author David Wroblewski, whose book “Familiaris” is the latest pick for her eponymous book club.

King, 68, added that Winfrey “will be OK” and hoped that “she’s not mad at me for sharing that detail.”

The CBS News veteran explained that she chose to share the queasy details because “I wanted to make it clear that [the book] matters to her and it really bothered her that she couldn’t be here today. She so, so loved this book.”

Long-time book lover Winfrey gushed about it on Instagram, calling it an “extraordinary journey that brilliantly interweaves history, philosophy, adventure, and mysticism to explore the meaning of love, friendship and living your life’s true purpose.”

The former talk show host has been in the news of late for opening up about her use of Ozempic and apologizing for promoting unhealthy weight loss regimes over the years.

“I have been a steadfast participant in this diet culture,” she shared earlier this month on a Weight Watchers television special. “Through my platforms, through the magazine, through the talk show for 25 years and online.

“I’ve been a major contributor to it. I cannot tell you how many weight-loss shows and makeovers I have done, and they have been a staple since I’ve been working in television, I’ve been a major contributor to it,” she added.

Winfrey admitted that one moment in particular fills her with regret.

It was when she infamously schlepped out a red Radio Flyer wagon stacked with 67 pounds of fat on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

The fat on the wagon represented how much weight she had lost after gritting her way through an intense, months-long, liquid-only fast.

“I’ve shared how that famous wagon of fat moment on the ‘Oprah’ show is one of my biggest regrets,” she continued. “It sent a message that starving yourself with a liquid diet — it set a standard for people watching that I nor anybody else could uphold.”
