Dolly Parton Sets #SearchForDolly Internet Casting Call for Upcoming Broadway Musical
Dolly Parton announced an internet casting call for her upcoming Broadway show, Dolly: An Original Musical on Thursday. Fans everywhere now have a chance to shoot their shot to play the country legend.
“Whether you’re chasing your dreams from a small town or you’ve spent years performing on stages across the country, I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway — and maybe even play me,” Parton said in a YouTube announcement. “This show is a celebration of my music, my life and all the amazing people who’ve been with me along the way.”
Parton emphasized that the search is open to all, “whether you’re an experienced theater professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something.” The one requirement: “We’re looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey.”
Interested singers can submit an audition at dollymusical.com, but the singer also wants candidates to post their tapes online, and use the hashtag #searchfordolly. Finalists will audition in person with the show’s casting director.
Parton first announced her musical in June, at the time saying it would be called Hello, I’m Dolly. The show will feature a score of Parton’s well-known songs as well as new songs she has written for the musical, with a book by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter, who wrote Parton’s Christmas on the Square film. Bartlett Sher will direct.
The show will be a bit of a Broadway return for Parton, who wrote the Tony-nominated score to the musical adaptation of 9 to 5: The Musical.
