21-year-old suspect had a criminal history


We’re learning more about the suspect in a mass shooting that left four people dead and three others injured in Florence over the weekend.The suspect has been identified as 21-year-old Chase Garvey, from Florence, Kentucky.Police spotted Garvey’s vehicle leaving the shooting, they chased him to Dale Heimbrock Way near Hicks Pike. Officers say they found Garvey had sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.Police said that their preliminary investigation indicates that Garvey was not an attendee of the party, and is believed by police to have come to the house with the sole intent of committing a violent attack on the house’s residents.According to court records, Garvey has two prior felony convictions in Kentucky for rape in the first degree and sodomy in the second degree, both dating back to 2021. Police confirmed Garvey’s criminal record in their press conference.Court documents indicate he served 230 days.More recently, in April 2022, he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful transaction with a minor.He was sentenced to five years, which would have put him in jail until 2027, but he was out.Then, in June 2023, he was caught doing donuts in a parking lot. Inside the car with him was a 13-year-old.It’s not clear how long his parole was revoked, but he was out again.Despite the felony convictions, Garvey somehow got a gun.Florence police said the investigation is looking into how that happened, saying if they can pinpoint where he got the gun they could charge the person who gave it to him or sold it to him.Bruce Parrett, the ex-husband of one victim and the father of another said Garvey had an ex-girlfriend at the party that set him off.Parrett says he had a party the night before and Garvey showed up uninvited there too, but there was no trouble.
